Gigi Hadid embraced her unshaved armpits in LOVE magazine’s 2017 advent calendar – and fan were divided. One thing is for certain, the supermodel is not shy about making a statement and that’s exactly what she did in this Christmas photo shoot. Not only did absolutely rock the look, but it’s not every day that you see people on Twitter fighting over whether or not a woman should flaunt her armpit hair.
Dressed in a red sports bra and matching tight shorts from her Tommy X Gigi collection, Gigi is seen working up a sweat for the calendar’s “stay strong” theme. In it, she throws some serious punches, however, it’s her armpit hair that really steals the show.
“I’m Gigi Hadid,” she says in the video, “and today is free-form day.”
At the end of the clip, she flexes her biceps, and says to the camera with a smile, “Stay strong.” But, because Twitter can be so shady, people obviously had something to say about her unshaved pits.
after watching Gigi Hadid on LOVE’s advent calendar, I dunno man… I just don’t think it should be aesthetically acceptable for a lady to have underarm hair no matter how freeing the thought of it is……. I mean, is it just me? Cos I really find it pretty pretty gross

If I have laser hair removal then so should Gigi Hadid

But what’s a debate without an bad-ass opposing party? Fans quickly came to Gigi’s – and women in general – defense arguing that armpit hair is a natural way of life and that — shocker — women should be free to do whatever the eff they want to do with their own bodies.
Why is everyone so upset about Gigi Hadid having armpit hair? It’s a natural thing, men always have armpit hair everywhere, why can’t women have hair? pic.twitter.com/WZrJWnmCHy

This year marks Gigi’s fourth appearance in the calendar, however, none are as empowering as this one. The video was also accompanied by a quote from Gigi on the power and boundary-pushing of LOVE‘s advent calendar. “I love seeing everyone else’s videos. It’s celebratory of epic human beings and always pushes boundaries,” she said. “The fashion circle is a family, so the Love Advent kind of feels like a Holiday Year Book in a way. Headmaster Grand style”
We bet she didn’t think her armpit hair would spark a feminist debate, did she? Considering women’s body hair is rarely embraced (or spoken about), we think it’s safe to say Gigi wins today.
