I don’t know if you know this about me, but I am obsessed with The Real Housewives of New York City. I don’t watch any of the other iterations of the Housewives franchise. For me, it’s all New York, all the time. So while references to the OC or Beverly Hills ladies can make me feel left out, I live for jokes, discussions, and especially reenactments based on the Big Apple girls. Imagine my delight when last night aspiring Housewife Amy Schumer was on Watch What Happens with Bill Hader and Judd Apatow to promote their movie Trainwreck, and Andy Cohen asked them to act out a fight from this season.
The fight in question happened during the ladies’ trip to Turks and Caicos, when Sonja Morgan blew up over suggestions she has a drinking problem. Amy plays Sonja, which is a good thing because she’s the only one out of the three of them who has any idea what that means. Neither Judd, who plays LuAnn de Lesseps, nor Bill, who plays Bethenny Frankel, knows what they’re supposed to sound like. But that makes it funnier, because while Amy does all the heavy lifting (and shouting) as Sonja, the guys just inexplicably make themselves sound like mob wives.
It’s so bad that not only does Bill start cracking up at one point, but Amy actually stops mid-scene to tell him he sounds nothing like Bethenny. Not before she shovels LuAnn’s eggs à la française into her mouth while she talks, though. It’s pretty fantasic. What’s also fantastic is the choice to have Judd wear the most statement necklace to ever statement necklace as LuAnn. I kind of wish they would have reenacted LuAnn’s cool/uncool speech from later in the season. Fingers crossed we get some other delightful celebrities to tackle that one.
